11.04.16 We’re OPEN just in time for this year’s Cork Lifelong Learning Festival! We started converting the large garage in January 2016, starting with a huge clearout of the previous owner’s stuff, and foam spray insulation of the roof to prevent condensation. The wood for the stud walls and ceiling went up next, followed by the first fix electrics. RW3 acoustic rockwool was then placed between the joists (walls and ceiling, and eventually the floor too) and the entire space was wrapped in a waterproof membrane. A double staggered layer of acoustic plasterboard was then put up. The new doorway was then cut, and the old window blocked up. By the end of February the plastering took place (hard to dry in a sealed room with storms raging outside!). In mid March the electrician was back fitting the lights, and a huge trench was dug to lay the new thicker electricity cables to power the studio, and a new concrete path was built to the Studio door. After the floor was laid and everything was painted at the end of March, we measured and positioned the walls, ceiling and corner acoustic treatments. The most important equipment has now been wired in, and the rest will be a ‘work in progress’ for a while yet!

The builders have started work, and we shall be making a photographic diary of works done, and posting it up here once it’s completed. We’ve decided to go with the same distinctive ‘Carrig Sound blue’!
